BROOKS BEARS CHEERLEADING

We are so happy that you are considering joining us for another great season! Our goal is for the 2023 Brooks Bears season to be the best one yet! One full of fun, success and memories to last a lifetime!

Membership on the Brooks Bears Cheer Team offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, teamwork and leadership. The attitude, dedication and enthusiasm of the team members are just as important as the skills involved in cheerleading. Members of the cheer team must be committed to the highest level of athleticism, performance, self-discipline, respect for the team and others, personal exemplary conduct, and the performance of all responsibilities related to the pursuit of team spirit and pride. Furthermore, cheerleaders must demonstrate a proven ability to balance academic requirements and demands with extra-curricular and personal activities.

This year will be demanding and we will expect 100% effort 100% of the time. Practices are mandatory and there needs to be full commitment made to this team in order to accomplish the goals they have set. Please take some time to discuss this with your family before committing to the team.

Cheerleading is unlike any other sport. We do not have substitute members when needed. We have no room for substitutions so you being present is very important. Illness or other extreme emergencies are the only valid reason for missing practices and games.

We understand that cheer is a huge commitment. We as parents and coaches are making the commitment to your girls and hope that you will join us this season.

We look forward to seeing you on the field!

When is camp and what will the girls learn?
Camp is Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23, 6-8 pm.  Camp will be instructed by our local HS cheerleaders from SMHS and WHS!  Your cheerleader will learn a cheer, a short dance, and cheer basics (Jumps, stunts, motions).

When will our first parents meeting be?
The parents will be during the first few minutes of camp on May 22.  .  Exact time TBA.

When will teams be put together?
The teams will be put together in early June.

When does the season start?
The season starts in June and early July with OPTIONAL summer clinics ($10 each).
Late July and Early August, be prepared for MANDATORY competition practices that consist of learning the routine you will compete with.
The first week of MANDATORY sideline cheer practices starts the first week of August.

What days will we have practices?
Practices are 2-3 nights/week, Mon and Thurs, but an occasional Tuesday added due to extra practices for competition at the Brooks Field. Practices are mandatory due to the nature of competition and cheerleaders don’t have subs like other sports.  Close to a competition we may have a Friday practice for dress rehearsal.

Do we practice and cheer at games in the rain?
Yes, we practice and cheer at games where it may be raining.  We modify activities for safety, of course.  Anytime the boys are playing football, the girls will be cheering.  Discussion of purchasing cheer rain jackets will be discussed with your team once the teams are formed.   We will always monitor for rapidly changing weather and thunder and lightning.

Are cheer practices and games mandatory?
Yes, cheer practices and games are mandatory.  Can you imagine putting up a stunt without the flyer, base, back spot or front spot of your stunt? How about if you are the main flyer missing in a 20-person pyramid? How about how formations might look if you are missing people?  The list could go on and on!!   Missing practices and games hurts you and your team.   As parents, coaches and directors, we are human and do understand sicknesses and deaths, weddings, but "I didn't do my homework and I'm running late" are not excused absences.  All schedules will be given as soon as we have them so that you are able to plan accordingly.

When do games start?
Games usually start Labor Day weekend.  The football schedule is the last thing to come out, so hang in there!!!!

Is my daughter able to cheer for my sons football team?
This may happen occasionally but will be completely random.  We have less cheer teams than football teams and we do our best just to have all the home games covered.

Do we cheer at away games?
We do participate in select away games during the season and championship games at the end of the season.  Competitions are in the Atlanta area.

Do you have a timeline of the season?
May- Camp,
June and July- Optional clinics
Late July early August- competition clinics-mandatory
August-first week of school is when mandatory practices begin
Sept- games start Labor Day weekend
October and November-bulk of competitions and games, Pink Out Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser
November and December- football playoffs
December-Bear Bash End of the year party

If my daughter decides not to cheer, can I get a refund?
We hate to see anyone not want to participate, however we understand that this could be a possibility.  There are NO Refunds issued after the last day of registration, May 31, 2023. If you do ask for a refund before the last day of registration, we can offer a refund minus $50.00.  Please contact us through email at brooksb[email protected] if there is a need for a refund.

Mixed in to all of that, we participate in our feeder school Youth Night High School Football events and other community outreach events.  ALL practices and games are mandatory.  All dates are in the process of being finalized.
